DOI Providers

DOI providers are organizations responsible for assigning Digital Object Identifiers (DOIs) to scholarly content. CrossRef is the largest and most widely used provider, mainly for journal articles, books, and other academic materials. DataCite focuses on providing DOIs for datasets and research data, promoting data sharing and citation. mEDRA is a European DOI registration agency that caters to publishers of books, journals, and multimedia. Zenodo is an open-access platform that assigns DOIs to research outputs, including datasets and articles, through DataCite. These providers ensure the permanent accessibility and proper citation of academic and research work.
